Important Information for ISBN Registration and Assignment

The National ISBN Agency of Pakistan provides ISBN services to publishers and self publishers throughout Pakistan. Applicants are requested to follow the steps below to ensure smooth processing of their applications.

1. First Time Registration

If you are applying for ISBNs for the first time as a publisher or self publisher, please contact the ISBN Section for guidance about your future publication plans and the number of ISBNs you may require.

For first time registration, you must:

• Complete the prescribed Registration Form.
• Sign the form properly.
• If you are registering an organization or publishing house, affix the official organization or publisher stamp.
• Send the original completed form in hard copy to the ISBN Section, National Library of Pakistan.

The original form is required for registration and official record.

2. ISBN Form 2

After registration, Form 2 is required for assigning an ISBN to a publication. Download Form 2 English or Form 2 Urdu.

A separate Form 2 must be submitted for each publication format, such as paperback, hardbound, or Ebook. Each format of the same publication requires a separate ISBN.

3. Previous Publications

If you have published books previously, please provide the details of your previous publications through the prescribed Form 1. Download Form 1 English or Form 1 Urdu.

4. Submission and Processing

For first time registration, the original required form must be received by the ISBN Section before the registration can be processed. Please ensure that all forms are complete and properly signed and stamped, where applicable, to avoid delays.

After receipt of the original forms, the case will be processed according to the prescribed procedure. Applicants are requested to allow reasonable time for processing.
